Winner trophies in Baba
8. 7. 2018, Pezinok / SK
The hill climb races in Pezinská Baba brought several absolute victories to the L Racing team last weekend. The whole season of the Slovak Hillclimb Championship (MSR PAV) is marked by tense, close competition between the world’s top racers. However, Pezinská Baba brought an unexpected turn after Saturday training when Igor Drotár, the main competitor of Věroslav Cvrček and the L Racing team, dropped out due to a technical failure. But it’s never easy, as the absolute winner of Slovakia Baba 2018 and holder of the new Škoda Fabia RS 2000 track record told us.
Věroslav Cvrček Jr.: “We tried to adjust the car for Pezinská Baba according to data and experience from previous years. After training on Saturday it looked like the close competition that has been taking place all season will continue. I, Igor Drotár and Austrian demon Karl Schlager were within 0.05s of each other. On the way back from training to the service shop, however, Igor Drotár withdrew due to engine failure, which changed the situation completely. Instead of a hard fight and driving at the full limit, it was necessary to safely reach the finish line for championship points. That’s why we only used old training tires. I still fought in the first ride, breaking the eight-year-old track record. I also went at a pleasant pace in the second ride, and I took the absolute victory with quite a big lead.
The situation on Sunday was the same, but because I didn’t come here just for points but also to enjoy a fast ride, entertain the audience and improve my driving skills, I put everything I had into the first ride, apart from taking a great risk. I improved my time from Saturday by 1.5s. In the second ride I wanted to go easy on the car, and I drove safely for my victory. These two victories are quite different from any previous victories, but they certainly weren’t easy. It wasn’t easy racing with the knowledge that I can’t take risks and that I have to go easy on the car. I certainly didn’t enjoy it as much as when it is down to the hundredth of a second. We even offered Igor’s team our spare engine. It was an interesting experience that is part of motorsport, and I’m glad I did it and didn’t make any senseless mistakes. I have to thank my car, which worked great. I thank L Racing for the chance to race and great conditions for a win, and I would like to thank Rexteam and my family for their support during the races.”
